everythings here is a special record. constructed to epic proportions typical of a danny howells production, this is a building track for the bigger rooms. evolving through swaying drum patterns and a gentle rising and falling melody, the moment comes from the mammoth pads in the break. liquid thang is a funked up floor-mover for the tail end of summer. jazzed up by splashes of horns and flutes, there is a clear old-school feel to the track that marries neatly with the low-down bass grooves, cosmic-sounding distorted keys and chopped up vocal refrains. smooth and shiny!

after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

laid out is swirling monster made up of the best elements of house music as we know it. a solid groove, tight production and beautiful melodies all work side by side to create a rather tasty musical mystery tour! a hazy bass line sits in the distance overrode by pads and melodies that build and build towards the shuffle percussion lead groove that is so infectious!!

with the bpm dropped and the delivery of such a deep, emotional slice of downtempo with all the right things in all the right places, you have to doff your hat to dannys production skills. still maintaining a deeper edge but given this package its more dance floor mix is the legend that is matrix! taking time apart from his right hand man futurebound, matrix unleashes a straight to the point, no holds barred awesome slice of futuristic dnb for 2009!

back with another of their much loved eps - the knee deep guys dig deep to satisfy your dancefloors yet again courtesy of the french love ep. kicking off with >all night< a charged up bullet with hooky vocal loop and infectious synthy lick, >vibin< is exactly that - a stabby low end bassline powers on alongside the sweet warming melody whilst the whole groove builds and builds leading to the chant-fuelled breakdown. rounding things off, >sweet love< has that epic crowd pleasing vibe you will have come to expect from the kd guys… again its simplicity at its best using a hooky riff throughout, and allowing the groove to shine. a power-packed ep in 3 different flavours

tweaked monosynth lines and rich polyphonic pads are featured on most tracks, and single note patterns of various timbre often reinforce the grooves. the title track on the a-side is as simple as effective and the name relates to some of the percussion parts which reminded them of a rodent digging a hole in the ground. first on the b-side is >if i was a man<, a slow-down groover with a dark and funky atmosphere, inspired by barbara alcindor s abstract spoken words, becomes more and more twisted towards the end of the track. last but not least, >zig zag<, which is named after the wobbly monosynth phrase which is being tweaked throughout the tune. all tracks speak of sweet, riding rhythms and nights full of action. pure quality
